Vandersee saddened by loss of fellow competitor PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 05 November 2007
Ray Vandersee of Skelta Sports Cars sends his condolences to the friends and family of fellow competitor Paul Flintoft, who tragically passed away as a result of a race incident during the first day of Mount Buller Sprint proceedings yesterday.

Flintoft, 42, was the co-driver in a car driven by David Reynolds which was involved in an incident during the opening run yesterday. Reynolds was airlifted from the scene to the Alfred Hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition. Vandersee would like to take the opportunity to pass on his thoughts to the family and friends of both Flintoft and Reynolds during this difficult time.

“As a frequent competitor of these kinds of events I knew Paul reasonably well, and I sat with him in the competitor’s briefing yesterday,” said Vandersee.

“My heart goes out to his family and friends, Paul was a really nice guy and will be sorely missed by the entire rally community.

“I only met David yesterday, but his reputation as a driver precedes him and I wish him all the best in his recovery through this difficult time also.”

In light of yesterday’s events, officials deliberated overnight as to whether or not to continue after being given the all clear from the Victoria Police and the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) and it was decided that the event would continue.

Today’s weather conditions have however hampered the event, with only one run taking place this morning before proceedings were halted for the day, with organisers hoping to complete the event tomorrow.
