The
cars and stars of Australian rallying will be on show at New Quay in
Docklands tonight ahead of this weekend's NGK Rally of Melbourne, the
final round of the NEC Australian Rally Championship.
Before they head to the Yarra Valley
for 18 competitive stages on Saturday and Sunday, teams will be at
Docklands tonight for autograph sessions from 4:30pm and the ceremonial
start at 6:30pm.
Teams
completed shakedown, the final running before competition commences,
today at the Don Road Sporting Complex in Healesville - the scene of
Sunday's final Super Special stage.
As they look to seal back-to-back Australian Rally Championships this weekend, Melbourne husband-and-wife pairing Simon and Sue Evans were fastest in their Toyota Racing Developments Corolla.
With
a fastest time of 53.9 seconds, the Evans' pipped championship rivals
and TRD team-mates Neal Bates and Coral Taylor by 0.1 of a second.
Victorian
young gun Brendan Reeves was third fastest in the Subaru Impreza he'll
share with his sister Rhianon Smyth (54.1 seconds).
The
Ford Fiesta of Darren Windus/Jon Mortimer (55.0 seconds) and Subaru
pairing Glen Raymond/Matt Raymond (55.3 seconds) rounded out the top
five.
