After securing the championship yesterday with an emphatic victory in Heat One, the Evans' could have been forgiven for sitting back today to bask in the glory of their second straight championship win. However, it was business as usual for the married duo taking out the final heat of the year, resulting in a clean sweep of the 2007 championship with the pair winning each and every heat across six rounds of competition.
Evans celebrated with a series of donuts in his Toyota Corolla in front of a huge crowd at the final Super Special stage in Healesville.
"I'm stoked," Simon Evans beamed.
"It's hard to believe how everything has played out, hats off to the TRD boys.
"The crowd all weekend has been fantastic; it was great to be able to give them some donuts at the end.
"We've really had a dream run all year - you can't beat a Corolla!"
Today's result where they finished just 11 seconds behind Toyota's Simon and Sue Evans placed them second for the heat, a satisfying way to finish the year and a good platform heading into 2008.
"We needed to end the year on a high and we've done that," Guest said.
"Today we had a good run and it was a great scrap with Simon.
"He's been the benchmark all year, so to end up 11 seconds behind Simon shows the sort of speed and potential the Fiesta has.
"All weekend the car has been faultless, if not for hitting the rock yesterday I think we could've been second for the weekend."
Top privateer and third today was Melbournian Spencer Lowndes in his Mitsubishi Evo IX.
Having only contested three events this year, Lowndes shone at his home event; third today and second yesterday placing he and co-driver Chris Randell second for the weekend.
While Neal Bates and Coral Taylor - the Evans' only championship rival entering this weekend - had a quiet round, they secured second for the championship with third yesterday and fourth today, putting them third on the podium for the final event of the year.
Glen and Matt Raymond found trouble again in heat two today, after hitting a kangaroo during yesterday's heat the pair crashed out on stage six this afternoon with their Subaru WRX ending up on its roof, both driver and co-driver escaped injury.
