Skelta Sports Car driver Ray Vandersee has sped his way to a class win
and fourth outright at the 10th annual Noosa Hill Climb today;
shattering his own record along the way.
Setting increasingly quick times throughout the weekend allowed
Vandersee to smash the previously standing record for road registered
vehicles of 59.88 seconds - which he set during last year’s running of
the event - by 1.4 seconds.
Topping his class today sees Vandersee take two wins in two straight
weekends, following on from his success at the Mount Buller Sprint last
weekend.
“This weekend has just been good all round for us,” said Vandersee.
“The car was exceptional, and the grip supplied by the Kumho tyres was particularly impressive.
“With such great grip on the start of the runs and over the entire
stage surface, coupled with the dry set-up from Mount Buller, the whole
combination just came together for us to really put down some quick
passes.
“We were six tenths faster today than we were yesterday, and
yesterday we were eight tenths quicker than last year’s record setting
pass, so we knew we would be right up there when it came down to the
final time sheets and are just really happy with the class win.”
With the times continually falling for the Toowoomba entrepreneur,
it was no surprise Vandersee was consistently amongst the outright
pace-setters to come home in the top four.
This weekend was originally set to see Tony Longhurst strap himself
aboard a Skelta G-Force alongside Vandersee, after he took second in
Vandersee’s Toowoomba-designed Sports Car in September’s Targa West.
Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances conspired to see Longhurst
called away from the event at the last minute, leaving Vandersee to fly
the Skelta G-Force flag solo this weekend.
Allan McConnell, the leader at the close of yesterday’s first day
of proceedings, took the overall honours this afternoon aboard his
‘hill climb special’ open wheeler.
