Sheane Cars, the people who brought Formula Vee to Ireland and who run
Formula Sheane are starting a drive to get new drivers into single-seat
motorsport.
For €650 Sheane Cars will put you in a brand new Formula Vee car.
They’ll run the car for a full day’s testing and provide experienced
drivers to give you advice on set-up and driving techniques. Then
they’ll put you in the car for qualifying and for a full championship
race.
They’ll even provide a helmet, race-suit, gloves and boots.
All you have to do is show up clutching a race-licence (easily available through Motorsport Ireland) and they do the rest.
The offer is for total novices. If you have raced before Sheane Cars
can provide arrive-and-drive packages in both Formula Vee and Formula
Sheane Scholarship (or Formula Sheane if you have the necessary
licence).
Sheane Cars have built the offer around Formula Vee because new drivers
are more likely to have other novices to compete with in Vee than in
Formula Sheane and the cars are lighter, less powerful and not as fast.
Once you have done the race weekend you have choices; you can rent or
buy a Vee to run yourself or to have Sheane Cars run. Or you can take
the big leap and compete in the Formula Sheane scholarship class. Or
you can give it all up. But they guarantee you won’t want to do that.
The Scholarship Class is for drivers with a ‘C’ or novice licence. You
begin the season with a 1600cc ‘K’-series engine and when your licence
upgrades (after six race-finishes) so does your engine (to the
full-spec Formula Sheane ‘K’-series. You can spot the scholarship cars
by the yellow wings they all carry. It’s a hotly contested championship
and the Scholarship cars are often within 2 seconds of the full-spec
Formula Sheanes.
There are a limited number of cars available so they’ll be provided on a first-come first-served basis.
