Lindbom sets the pace in practice PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 November 2007

CAMS Rising Star Kristian Lindbom set fastest times in each of today's Formula Fordtas_lindbom_img.jpg Championship practice sessions at a Symmons Plains circuit bathed in sunshine in Launceston.

Fresh from finalising his HSC exams earlier in the week, the young New South Welshman took advantage of his previous experience at Symmons Plains, posting a 0:56.4002 in the opening session of the day.

"It's good to be able to come and race at a track where I have had some experience, we raced here in Formula Ford last year so I have some familiarity with the track that held me in good stead," said Lindbom.

"We are pretty happy overall, the car showed good speed so I hope to carry that into qualifying".

Lindbom's CAMS Rising Star teammate Joshua Scott posted today's second fastest lap with a 0:56.4843, also a time posted in the day's opening session.

tas_scott_img.jpg"At the moment we are just readying the car for qualifying tomorrow morning, the second session was a little interrupted but after things got going following the second red flag we were right up there," said Scott.

The youngster will be hoping for a similar result in tomorrow mornings qualifying to his Sandown qualifying performance where he put his Spectrum on pole for the opening race.

"It's always nice to be fast in practice and qualifying, but my main aim is to put that to use during races and finish well up the order, because essentially that's where it counts", Scott explained.

Series leader Tim Blanchard was third quickest overall today with a lap time of 0:56.5359 in the second session, managing to get his fastest lap in prior to the frustrating red flag interruptions when Tobia Kipper and James Crozier met with the kerb to hold up proceedings.

Blanchard's Sonic Motorsport teammates Glen Wood and James Moffat were fourth and fifth respectively on the timesheets and believe there is still some improvement in the Sonic Mygales to ensure they qualify well tomorrow morning.

"There are some minor changes that we will make for tomorrow that should help us with speed, but I'm content with where we sit at the moment," explained Moffat.

Wood was brimming with confidence leading into the penultimate round of this year's championship having secured his maiden round win at Philip Island in September.

"It came as a bit of surprise but hopefully I can carry on from there, I haven't raced here before so the challenge is ahead of me, today was a good opportunity to learn the tight circuit," explained Wood.

Blake Varney impressed in his Autobarn Spectrum setting sixth fastest time, with team BRM's Nick Percat close behind in seventh.

CAMS Rising Star and currently second in the Championship chasing Blanchard for the series lead, Ashley Walsh struggled for pace today and finds himself in unfamiliar territory down the time sheet and unable to point out exactly where his Spectrum was lacking.

"I'm at a loss to figure it out at the moment, we will work on a few things but I was a little concerned with my times after those two sessions, we definitely have some work to do," said Walsh.

Walsh can take heart in the fact his two team mates topped the timesheets in the same equipment giving the team a comparison to work with to bring Walsh's Spectrum up to speed overnight for a morning qualifying outing.

Taz Douglas and Sam Sewell rounded out the top ten combined practice session times. .

Qualifying is scheduled for 10:55am tomorrow morning, with race one to begin at 2:10pm and scheduled to be telecast to the nation on network seven, check local guides for details.
