Pre-registration
for the 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship is now open with 10 teams taking
the early opportunity to register their interest in the entry-level
single-seater category. The two-class Championship, entering its fourth season
under the guidance of Renault Sport UK, saw a record 43 registrations in 2007
prompting a new format for 2008.
Under
the new system, championship organisers will accept a maximum of 36
registrations. Of these spaces, 26 will be reserved for FR2000 Class drivers and
10 for Club Class drivers, until the closing date for entries, Friday,
15th February. After this date, drivers can enter either class until
the capacity is reached.
The
pre-registration process has been introduced for all three Renault Sport UK
Championships in anticipation of huge interest. The 2007 Formula Renault UK with
Michelin Winter Cup reached a capacity of 32 in record time, including nine BARC
Class cars, while the 2007 ELF Renault Clio Cup saw a record 44
entries.
Teams
that pre-register will be the first to receive registration forms when
championship registration opens in January.
Current
team Falcon Motorsport has announced it intends to run three cars, while Eurotek
Motorsport and Alpine Motorsport plan to enter two cars each as they continue in
the championship. Joshua Brooks (Alford) plans to contest a second season with
the Boulevard Team Racing squad.
Brett
Parris (Southampton), the BARC Class vice-champion in the recent Formula Renault
UK Winter Cup, will head a two-car attack for the HS Motorsport team. Michael
Lyons (Felsted), who also raced in the Formula Renault UK Winter Cup, will enter
as a privateer, while experienced Club Class team Reon Motorsport intends to run
one car in the FR2000 Class for the first time.
Club
Class interest has been received from Reon Motorsport along with privateers Bill
Allen (Hungerford), James Simons (Stanbridge) and Edward Heinzelmann (Royston).
Club Class is entering its final year of racing in the Formula Renault BARC
Championship as the series becomes devoted to the 2006-specification Formula
Renault 2.0 cars in the FR2000 Class.
Commenting
on the early interest, Championship Manager Simon North said: “Formula Renault
BARC has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons, culminating in full
grids at every round in 2007. Given the opportunity to race such a sophisticated
car, the value for money is unrivalled and provides a great platform to progress
into Formula Renault UK and beyond.”
