Paul ‘the Rat’ Radisich snatched pole
position for the first race of the NZ Truth V8s at Powerbuilt Tools
International Raceway (Ruapuna) with a well-timed fastest lap with just a
minute to go in the three V8 Supercar-style qualifying sessions.
In the HPM Ford, Radisich’s time of 1:30.320
was just enough to take pole for the weekend’s first race from former
champion Kayne Scott in the Fujitsu Ford who took slot second. Angus Fogg in
the Havoline Ford was third fastest while defending V8 champion John McIntyre in
the BP Ultimate Ford will line up in fourth position.
The remaining six in the top ten for the weekend’s
first 14 lap race are: Cameron McLean, David Besnard, Paul Manuell, Luke
Youlden, Mark Pedersen and Andy
Booth. Manuell and Booth are driving the only Holdens in the top ten; the
others are all in Fords.
The NZ Truth V8s Championship has its second round at
Powerbuilt Raceway this weekend with the GT Radial 200 event being contested by
a talent-filled field of 31 V8s, comprising 20 Fords and 11 Holdens.
New qualifying rules see the whole field complete an
initial 20 minute qualifying session, then the top 20 go through to a 15 minute
session. Only the top ten contest a final 15 minute session to determine the
final starting grid. The NZ Truth V8s contest their first 14-lap race of the
weekend late on Saturday afternoon, then two races on Sunday with the third of
those races a full reverse grid.
McIntyre won the V8s first round at Pukekohe earlier
in November and leads the championship by 25 points from Fogg before this
weekend’s racing commences.
