Switzerland dominated the third and final official practice
session at Sepang International circuit this morning, setting
the scene for an incredibly close and exciting qualifying
session this afternoon.
Neel Jani, who masterfully converted his pole position to a
win in last year's Sepang Sprint race, set the pace early on
and went on to record a blisteringly quick lap of 1m49.176s on
used tyres, 40 minutes into the hour long session.
The Swiss racer was closely followed by France's Loic
Duval, who clocked the second fastest time ahead of India's
Narain Karthikeyan, with just over half a second separating
the top three.
Despite spinning off the track into the gravel at the start
of the session, GBR's Oliver Jarvis finished fourth fastest
while USA's Jonathan Summerton and A1GP debutante Germany's
Michael Ammermüller impressed the crowd by setting the fifth
and sixth fastest times respectively.
South Africa's Adrian Zaugg was classified seventh while
Brazil's Sergio Jimenez, who has been on strong form all
weekend despite this being his first experience of the Sepang
circuit, set the eighth quickest lap time of the morning.
Local hero Alex Yoong was obviously a lot happier with the
set up of the Malaysian car, pleasing the home crowd by ending
the session 10th fastest.
Current championship leader New Zealand's Jonny Reid was
confined to the garage for much of the session due to a
problem with second gear, but the team remain confident that
the issue will be resolved in time for qualifying, which
starts at 14.15 this afternoon.
Current championship leader New Zealand's Jonny Reid ended
the session 16th, having been confined to the garage for much
of the hour due to a problem with second gear, but the team
remain confident that the issue will be resolved in time for
qualifying, which starts at 14.15 this afternoon.
