New Zealand A1GP driver Jonny Reid has finished 6th in the Sprint Race at the World Cup of Motorsport in Malaysia.
The 3rd round on the Sepang International Circuit started ominously when Reid tangled with China and dropped back a spot. But he piloted Black Beauty past Great Britain with a superb move on the front straight halfway through the race and went on to finish in his original grid position.
Switzerland led from start to finish to storm home ahead of France and Germany.
The Swiss have now taken over at the top of the championship table with 45 points. New Zealand has dropped to second, three points behind on 42, and France is a further point back on 41.
The 70-minute Feature Race, the 50th race* in A1GP's short history, starts at 8pm tonight with New Zealand 10th on the grid.
* Since A1GP's debut at Brands Hatch in September 2005:
• 13 different countries have won races, using 16 different drivers
• 16 circuits have hosted races in 14 different countries
• 104 drivers have started at least one race
• A1 Team Malaysia's Alex Yoong has driven in the most races with 44 caps (which will be 46 by Sunday)
• New Zealand has completed the most distance across those races with a staggering 5353km successfully completed
