Front-running Carrera Cup and Australian GT competitor David Wall will
strap-in for his first ever Bathurst endurance event at the WPS
Bathurst 12 Hour next February.
After competing in endurance events such as the Sepang 12 hour, the
second-generation racer is now looking forward to trying his hand
behind the wheel at Mount Panorama alongside his father Des Wall in the
Alan East Motorsport entry.
“Although I have competed in endurance events before both here in
Australia and overseas, I have never had the chance to compete in a
team event at Mount Panorama,” said Wall.
“To be running with Dad at Bathurst will be great - we have
competed together in the Sepang event and others. We have raced out of
the same garage for years so I am really looking forward to tackling
the EVO and 12 hours at the Mountain with him.”
Not only will the February Event be the junior Wall’s first go at
Mount Panorama endurance racing, it will also be his first competitive
hit-out in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, although early testing bodes
well for the 24 year old who was crowned the Carrera Cup Rookie of the
Year in 2006.
“I have not run competitively in the EVO IX before, so we have been
doing a bit of testing in it and I am feeling confident,” said Wall.
“It is quite an easy car to get a grip of compared to what I am
used to in regards to the Porsches and the like, which has been a nice
surprise.”
While it may be Wall’s first enduro hit-out at the Mountain, it
will not be his first visit to the Festival with the Sydney-sider
taking in the sights and sounds as he competed in the Australian GT
Championship at Easter – a series in which he is currently placed third
with only one round left to run.
“I competed in the WPS Bathurst Motor Festival this year in the GT
championship and it was a great event, so I am really looking forward
to taking part in the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour after seeing it in action,”
said Wall.
“There is no better way to learn Bathurst - it is just one of the
those tracks where every time you go around you find something that
wasn’t there before, so to do 12 hours will just be a great opportunity
“The Alan East Motorsport campaign is shaping up to be a really
promising run for us, with Alan and his crew putting so much
preparation into the car and how things will play-out, so I have no
doubt this is going to be a fantastic event for everyone involved.”
Alan East Motorsport Team Principal Alan East said that he was
delighted to have David on board for his WPS Bathurst 12 Hour campaign.
“I have been involved in motorsport for longer than I care to remember,” laughed East.
“Through this sport I have had the opportunity to make a lot of
friends, and I couldn’t be happier that I have three of my close mates
and competitive sparring partners steering the EVO for me, along with
David who is an upcoming young talent.
“Now at the other side of 60, endurance racing is something I have
never really tried my hand at and I figured that if I didn’t do it now,
I never would – so while we will be out there to have fun, we also want
to win and I know the drivers I have on board are more than capable of
making that happen!”
David and Des Wall will also be joined at the steering wheel for
Alan East Motorsport by Alan's long time friends and fellow competitors
on the rally circuit Martin Notaris and Trevor Symonds.
The 2008 WPS Bathurst Motor Festival will be held at Mount Panorama
on February 8-10, incorporating the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on Sunday
February 10, for which entries are now open.
