Tom Onslow-Cole at Wembley in BP Ultimate Kart Challenge PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 07 December 2007

Tom Onslow-Cole will be among the first drivers to race around the Race Of Champions configuration at Wembley when he races a 60mph kart at the famous London landmark in the BP Ultimate Karting 2007 event on Monday (Dec 10).

The 20 year-old BTCC star who took four podiums and a race win in his very first season in touring cars and helped Team RAC to win the Independents Trophy will join leading motorsport website crash.net in its bid to win the two-hour race pitched against 11 other teams.

Aimed at providing the chance for the media to gain knowledge of the track which next weekend will host the BP Ultimate Race of Champions, teams from Pistonheads, Evo, Metro, Stuff, BBC Sport, Autocar, Auto Express and two others comprising journalists from the Sun, Top Gear, Max Power and Fast Ford will join two teams from BP.

Next Sunday’s Race of Champions event, now in it’s 20th year, will see some of the major names from all walks of motorsport including seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher, current Grand Prix drivers David Coulthard and Jenson Button, three-time FIA World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx and from world rallying Marcus Gronholm, Petter Solberg and Alister McRae.

Prior to that though, Tom, a regular contributor to crash.net will join three journalists, Matt Salisbury, Craig Llewellyn and Pete Wadsworth as they bid for victory around the challenging circuit to uphold media honours.  “It should be fun,” said Tom.  “Not least because I’ll be getting to race on the actual track that just a few days later will see some of the greatest drivers going head-to-head for national glory.

“Although the kart race is purely for fun, that won’t stop me and my team-mates Matt, Peter and Craig going flat out for victory.”

Sunday’s kart event will kick off at 14.00 with a safety briefing in the England changing room, prior to a 30 minute practice session at 14.15.  The two-hour endurance race will kick off at 15.00 and will be followed by the prize-giving in the press room as soon as possible after.
