Waltons head whitewash PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 08 December 2007

Queenslander Kris Walton has set the early pace at round eight of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship practicing his Talbrace Ford Falcon AU around the Sandown Raceway with a best lap 1 minute 25.4926 seconds yesterday.

Albeit slightly slower in qualifying, he was four tenths of a second ahead of nearest rival South Australian Matt Lovell in his Cell-tic Batteries Falcon AU while fellow state residents Steve Kwaitkowski in the Westports Cars AU and Bruce Heinrich (GJC Engineers AU) made it a Ford whitewash on the time sheets. Heinrich the four times Australian Saloon Car Champion is poised to win his fifth title in six years and only needs a handful of points to deny Walton his first title.

John Goodacre (SA) was the best of the Holden Commodores, his Brice Australia VT was second quickest in qualifying but slipped to fifth in the first of two qualifying sessions. Next was the 2004 champion, West Australian Clint Harvey in his AU ahead of Sam Milton who later crashed his AU and brought about a one-hour delay while fencing was repaired. Milton was not hurt in the incident and his car is expected to be repaired for second qualifier today.

Troy Hoey was another accident victim, the Queenslander’s AU going off in practice and missing the first round of qualifying. Meanwhile Victorians Andrew Nowland (AU) and Tim Rouse (VT) were eighth and ninth respectively whilst the lone New South Wales entry, the AU of Shane Smollen was tenth of the 21 that qualified.

The Australian Saloon Car Company (TASCCO) is a foundation member of the CAMS National Racing Championship, one of the five core categories (Production Cars, F3, Saloon Cars, Commodore Cup and GT/Porsche) in partnership with CAMS that now make up the Shannons Nationals.

The popular six cylinder Holden Commodore verse Ford Falcon category is supported by Supaloc Steel Building Systems, Pedders Suspension, Kumho Tyres, Xtreme Clutch, EMS Fuel Injection, Cebco Brakes and CSA Alloy Wheels.
