| Young karters take Enduro win ahead of V8 stars |

Young Victorian karter Daniel Rochford paired with former Australian
Champion Josh Arandt to win the inaugural VACC Four Hour Karting Enduro
at VACC Park in Port Melbourne, Victoria yesterday.
The pair claimed the victory ahead of Britek Motorsport V8 driver Alan Gurr (who was paired with Tim Slade) and the team of Steven Scoble and Jake Spencer. Jack Daniel’s Racing V8 Supercar drivers Shane Price and Jack Perkins finished sixth while the Tasman Motorsport pairing of Jason Richards and his engineer Adam DeBorre finished tenth. After a successful career in junior karting yesterday’s race marked the debut in the senior ranks for Rochford, who last weekend represented Australia at the World Rotax Final in Dubai. Following four hours and 238 laps of the 1.005km circuit, Rochford
crossed the line aboard the #10 CC Racing Rotax powered Arrow kart 24
seconds clear of the entry of Gurr.
“It was an amazing race, very tough but extremely enjoyable,” said Rochford. “There were some very good drivers competing, not only kart racers but also Formula Ford and V8 Supercar drivers, so it is a great way to start my career in seniors.” Slade, who finished second in the 2006 Australian Formula Ford Championship, drove the first 90 minutes of the race in the #19 Rotax powered Phoenix kart before handing the driving duties over to Gurr. For the next 2 1/2 hours Gurr put in a superb effort to claw his way towards the front of the field and become the only team to finish on the same lap as the winning team. “I had a ball out there, a race that long certainly takes its toll on the body but it was very enjoyable,” said Gurr. “It is hard to know where you are running when you're in the middle of a long stint but when I got picked up by the safety kart late in the race as the leader I was pleasantly suprised to know how high up we were." Price and Perkins, who both have a strong heritage with karting, left the circuit after practice on Friday with a new appreciation for
the comforts provided by a V8 Supercar.
“I’d forgotten how many bumps you feel in a kart compared to a V8 Supercar. It took me a while to adapt to getting back behind the wheel again but after a couple of spins I was back into the swing of things,” said Perkins. “By the time the race came around both Shane and myself were back in the groove and had a ball.” Richards, who finished runner-up in the 2005 Bathurst 1000, was full of praise for the event and indicated he could be seen around the kart track at a more regular basis in the future. “I really enjoyed getting back behind the wheel of a kart, it is something I don’t get to do often enough,” said Richards. “For about forty minutes midway through the race Shane (Price) and I were having a great battle lap after lap, we ran nose to tail, side by side and really had a blast. “Karting is where I started my career and I would like to be able to spend more time at the kart track to not only to keep my ‘eye in’ and stay sharp but also to have some fun.” While the outright win was the main focus for the race, there was also a battle for the Masters crown for older generation where Bobby Bourke and Gary Pegoraro took the honours in their Leopard powered Gillard kart. Second place went to the pair of Steven Smythe and Mark Wickes with Frank Fella and David Aldersley finishing third. Prior to the start of the VACC Enduro the Midget drivers, both boys and girls aged between seven and 11 years, competed in a mini-enduro over 50 minutes. Damon Strong took the win and took home a new Yamaha engine for his efforts. Jake Klien and Dylan Sylitis finished second and third to take home a set of Dunlop tyres for their efforts. The crowd were also treated to a taste of karting from years gone by with a display of vintage karts throughout the day. VACC FOUR HOUR KARTING ENDURO – RESULTS 1.
