2008 POWERnights Provisional Calendar Announced PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 12 December 2007

power_nights_logo.jpgFollowing the successful trial of POWERnights, the Thursday Evening of Summer Motorsport events, this year, the organisers are pleased to announce a programme of events for 2008 with a provisional calendar of four dates at Silverstone, The Home of British Motor Racing; one in each of the main summer months.

The concept of a full days testing and qualifying, with eight 10 minute evening races, along with other entertainment, had a positive reception from competitors, spectators, sponsors and the media in its inaugural season, with three events held at Silverstone and Donington Park last August.  The added bonus of TV coverage and prize money attracted large grids of easily recognisable race cars for spectators to enjoy, helping to attract a new family audience to watch UK motorsport.

The provisional 2008 POWERnights calendar is –

1. Thursday 08 May − Silverstone, National Circuit

2. Thursday 19 June − Silverstone, National Circuit

3. Thursday 31 July − Silverstone, National Circuit

4. Thursday 21 August − Silverstone, National Circuit

Whilst wishing to extend POWERnights to multiple venues the decision to hold all four events solely at Silverstone in 2008 was taken after the new management at Donington Park were unable to offer a commercially viable arrangement and other potential venues were currently unable to provide an operating agreement during the times required. The organisers of POWERnights believe however, that these circumstances are likely to change in the near future.

“We are pleased to announce our provisional 2008 calendar and, with the support of our partners, we now look forward to building on the very firm foundations we laid this season and I would like to thank Silverstone for their continued support and vision for new ideas,” said POWERnights Series Director Roger Etcell. “Having four dates solely at Silverstone next year has given us an excellent opportunity to build public awareness for these exciting events in the Midlands area, with an easy to communicate message of one place and one date per month next summer.  We have already been contacted by a number of race series and clubs, both from this year’s events, and new, who want to be part of POWERnights.  With one POWERnights event in each of the four summer months, we can continue to build our spectator base and then look to take POWERnights to other venues from 2009 when further opportunities may be extended to us.”

The 2008 POWERnights events will be run along the same framework as in 2007, with the aim to entertain existing enthusiasts and attract a brand new audience to watch UK motorsport with a comprehensive and entertaining programme of track action, stunt displays, interactive competitions, music and a post racing ‘Party in the Paddock’ that is open to everyone attending the POWERnights events.

Further information concerning race content, ticket prices and other competitor and spectator information will be announced shortly.
