Hyundai has announced that in conjunction with Kangan Batman TAFE, a
Hyundai Sonata 2.4 Series Production car will take part in the 2008 WPS
Bathurst 12 Hour – with Hyundai Team Sonata the TAFE’s latest student
project.
Hyundai Team Sonata will form one part of the Kangan Batman TAFE’s
dedicated motorsport training course, which sees students work on a
variety of race cars including modern vehicles such as the Sonata.
In October 2006, Hyundai Motor Company Australia donated the Hyundai
Sonata to Kangan Batman TAFE as part of its corporate support category,
and the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour will be the team’s first competitive
outing.
Motorsport Head Teacher Greg Moulden said that students of the
course would take responsibility for preparing and testing the Sonata
in a full race program.
“Our students have been working hard over the last 12 months to
prepare the Sonata for a full race program in 2008,” said Moulden.
“They are really excited about getting to see their car and the
product of all their hard work speeding around the legendary Mount
Panorama, and we will have a crew of approximately eight students with
three teachers on hand to witness this first-hand.
“While the drivers are yet to be announced, two of our potential
line-up have previous Bathurst experience under their belts so we are
looking forward to being competitive once we hit the track in
February.”
Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s After Sales Senior Manager Greg
Sticker said he was happy Hyundai were able to be involved in this
valuable student project.
“We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the future
learning of not just the TAFE students, but also our dealer
apprentices” said Sticker.
“Dealer apprentices will be given the chance to join the team at
various race meetings throughout the year, bringing their Hyundai
knowledge to pit lane in exchange for the learning experience of
working in a full pressure, dynamic environment."
Greg Moulden will act as team manager for Hyundai Team Sonata, while HMCA will provide financial and logistical support.
The 2008 WPS Bathurst Motor Festival will be held at Mount Panorama
on February 8-10, incorporating the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on Sunday
February 10.
