Over 70 of the world’s top
motorsport stars will be at Autosport International, 10-13 January 2008, to
help David Brabham’s Racing 4 Charity organisation reach his fundraising
target of £50,000. The battle of the
motorsport formulas is set to ignite once again on the Karting 4 U indoor track
in the Autosport International BP Ultimate 102 Unleaded Kart Challenge on
Friday 11 January.
Virtually every major motorsport
formula will be represented in the 22 teams competing in the Racing 4 Charity
event, including former Formula One stars and drivers from ALMS, DTM, WTCC,
BTCC, British and FIA GT, British F3, WRC, Formula Renault and karting. At the other end of the spectrum, these
international stars will be racing alongside paying members of the public.
The best names in the business from
across the globe have been lining up to support this unique event, including
double Formula Indy World Champion and Indianapolis
500 winner, Gil de Ferran. “To me this is a no brainer!” said
Gil. “First you go and visit one
of the best racing car shows in the world, while at the same time spending time
with your friends and family. Let’s
not forget, you can also have some fun with them bumping around the kart track
for a couple of hours. But most
importantly, you can do all this and help a charity as well! I can think of
many worse ways to spend an afternoon.”
With
each driver’s pride at stake to prove they race in the best motorsport
formula, a good deal of banter and tension will fill Hall 4 at the NEC. 2007 American Le Mans Series Champion and
former Formula One driver Allan McNish commented: “I have known David Brabham as a fierce on-track competitor as well as an
off-track friend. His Racing 4 Charity
event combines the love of our sport and also the reminder that we are very
privileged to be able to race, which is something we often forget. I am pleased to be able to participate and
hopefully, altogether, we can make a difference.”
The entry list for the Racing 4
Charity event reads as a veritable who’s who of motorsport. Also joining Brabham, one of the world's leading sportscar racers, de Ferran and McNish will be British fans’ Formula One favourite Johnny
Herbert; DTM stars Gary Paffett and Darren Turner; 2005 McLaren Autosport BRDC
Young Driver of the Year, 2007 Macau F3 Grand Prix winner and A1 Team GBR
driver for the A1 World Cup of Motorsport, Oliver Jarvis; BTCC race-winner Tom
Onslow-Cole; GP2 ace Adam Carroll, and rising World Rally star Matthew Wilson,
to name a few.
David Brabham commented: “We are really
gaining a lot of momentum now and the response from the star drivers and public
has been superb. The racing is going to
be hotly contested and I am sure the public will have fun watching it while the
drivers will be getting the Christmas break boredom out of their system. With the race being televised all over the world,
the charities and sponsors will have great TV awareness.”
Only a handful of places remain but members of
the public can still be a part of this star-studded charity event for just £300
per driver, simply contact

the extended one and a half hour race, which starts at 3.15pm.
As if racing with the world’s motorsport
elite wasn’t enough, there will be some fantastic prizes on offer,
including an action packed day at the Thruxton Motorsport Centre plus a
year’s subscription to Autosport magazine for the winner of the public
driver fastest lap shoot-out. Other prizes
include a race suit signed by all of the celebrity drivers for the fastest lap
set on the Jordan F1 simulator.
