Adrad Racing Bounces Back From First Lap Oran Park Crunch |

A Lap One, Race One collision dented a potentially excellent run for ADRAD Racing at this weekend’s fourth round of the 2006 Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup Championship at Oran Park.
Adelaide Driver Bryce Washington was an innocent party in a three car incident that left the #54 ADRAD Radiator Experts Porsche GT3 Cup Car stranded after just a few hundred meters of racing in Saturday’s opening event.
Despite the race one non-finish, Washington managed to bounce back in the second and third races this weekend to score a solid haul of championship points thanks to a pair of top ten finishes.
The close confines of this year’s Carrera Cup Field meant Washington qualified 12th for this weekend's round, despite being just over a second from the pole position benchmark set by Alex Davison.
The Qualifying performance was a distinct improvement after two torrid practice sessions that saw 22-year-old Washington languishing 18th on the timesheets after battling setup difficulties with the car.

Putting the race one non-finish behind them, the ADRAD racing crew regrouped for the second of three 16-lap encounters and were rewarded by a strong run to tenth place from the rear of the field. Another strong run to eighth in the finale’ gave the ADRAD team a satisfying finish to a tough weekend and serves as proof of the team’s ability to bounce back from misfortune.
“As far as weekends go, it was a tough one but it could have been a lot
worse,” A philosophical Washington said following today’s final race.
“The car was nowhere on Friday and the first session on Saturday so we
had to go back to basics from the setup book. The car was definitely a
lot better after that.
“I don’t think I got the best out of the car in Qualifying although I
only had one clear lap. We were up by about half a second on another
lap but the Traffic stopped that run, so we knew we had the pace to be
a bit higher up the grid.” He said.
Washington spent races two and three in close company with Anthony
Tratt, the pair trading paint and racing space for a majority of
today’s two races.
“Tratt was very hard to pass,” Bryce said.
“He was doing a lot of blocking in both races today and it was really
hard to pass. We were side by side a few times and I had to get on the
grass to stop hitting him. It’s hard to overtake here so in the end we
couldn’t get by but we were able to get inside the top ten which made
the weekend a lot better than it started.”
The ADRAD Racing climb up the Carrera Cup ladder has continued by
virtue of their top ten run today, Washington jumping ahead of Peter
Fitzgerald to sit 13th on the championship table with 117 points, just
9 behind 12th placed Klark Quinn.
The next round of the WPS Carrera Cup Championship will be held at the
Sandown 500 on September 1 – 3, the same weekend as the seventh round
of the Australian GT championship in which Washington and ADRAD racing
also compete.
An announcement regarding ADRAD racing’s plans for the weekend will be forthcoming prior to the respective events.
Bryce will be back in action next weekend driving his GT Championship
Porsche at Phillip Island Circuit in Victoria, the sixth GT round this
year – a one-hour endurance event at the challenging Island circuit.
