Birmingham,
UK – A1GP World Cup of Motorsport
fans will get a unique opportunity to meet the stars of the
international nation versus nation series this week at
Autosport International, the largest motorsport exhibition in
the world, at the NEC in Birmingham (10-13 January 2008).
At the centre of the A1GP interactive display
stand in Hall 6 will be the stunning red, white and blue car
of A1 Team Great Britain, currently lying fourth in the hotly
contested championship. There will also be appearances from
GBR drivers Robbie Kerr and Oliver Jarvis on the A1GP stand
and main Autosport stage on Friday and Saturday morning (see
below for details and timings).
Also scheduled to appear on the stand and
stage on Friday are A1 Team Ireland driver Adam Carroll and
seat holder Mark Gallagher, plus A1 Team Lebanon’s Khalil
Beschir.
The drivers will be interviewed about the
series and the final round of the 10-event calendar at Brands
Hatch, Great Britain in May as well as being available for
photographs and autograph signings. Big Chris, race track
mechanic from the animated children's television show Roary
the Racing Car, and a special Scalextric track featuring A1GP
cars will also be on the stand.
On Friday afternoon, all four drivers (Kerr,
Jarvis, Carroll and Beschir) will be taking part in the BP
Ultimate 102 Unleaded Celebrity Kart Challenge in the
karting hall at the NEC. The A1GP team is racing to raise
money for Cerebra, a charity which funds research on brain
conditions, and provides support to parents, carers and
professionals. Twenty kart teams will race for one and half
hours, under endurance rules and each team will consist of
four well known racing drivers or motorsport celebrities, plus
two members of public.
The series heads straight from Autosport
International to the Southern Hemisphere for A1GP Taupo, New
Zealand, marking the fifth round of the 2007/08 season and the
first race of the New Year after the winter break. The venue
will be the setting for the most important environmental
initiative in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport's short
history, as when the series descends on Lake Taupo, it will
become the first truly global motorsport body to switch to a
30 per cent biofuel mix.
The A1GP season finale will be held at the
legendary Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on 2-4 May 2008 and
tickets for the three-day event can be purchased at the show
on the A1GP stand (Hall 6, Stand 6355).
