Who will be the next big racing driver star in Britain? The 12
finalists (pictured with Fabrizio Giovanardi) will be fighting for victory
For
72-hours the 12 contenders will take part in
key tasks allowing judges to keep a close eye on their individual
performances in order to filter out the greatest talent, who will
receive the highly
lucrative prize of a fully-funded race seat in the 2008 Dunlop Sport
Maxx Production Car Championship, worth £80,000.
The
respective disciplines will include media
and interview activities, written tests, driving elements and a fitness
assessment led by a respected Formula One physical trainer.
“The
eventual winner of the competition
will be an all-round package and we will judge on all elements
throughout the boot camp to find the best talent,” said Vauxhall’s
Group
Marketing Manager Richard Hughes, who is one of the judges.
“It will be very interesting to follow
the process and I’m sure some contenders will loose their nerves and it will get fairly tense towards the end.”
The
finalists will also receive great support
from VX Racing’s British Touring Car (BTCC) Champion Fabrizio
Giovanardi and recently-signed Matt Neal, the first ever independent
driver to
have won the championship twice. Both drivers are perfectly suited for
their roles of ambassadors judging on their experiences and will play a
vital
part during the boot camp, each mentoring a group of six final
competitors.
“I’m very excited to take part in
the boot camp to find the next big racing driver star in the UK,” said Giovanardi. “I have met all of the finalists last
year and they are all 100% committed and really want to win this.
“The three days will be extremely
stressful for all participants and I think this will affect them a lot in terms of making mistakes.”
