Sydney businessman Garry Holt has today confirmed that his 2007 WPS Bathurst 12
Hour winning driver and car combination will return to defend its title in
February, 2008.
Last year, an enthralling tussle that lasted the
entirety of the 12 hour acid test saw the Craig Baird/Paul Morris/Garry Holt BMW
335i entry collect the chequered flag.
The team’s overall race strategy proved superior as they finished ahead of the
top Subaru WRX Sti being campaigned by rally champions Chris Atkinson, Cody
Crocker and Dean Herridge.
Now, Holt has confirmed that Baird, Morris
and himself will again pilot the car which went on to win the 2007 Australian
Production Car Championship with Holt at the wheel after its victorious 2007 WPS
Bathurst Motor Festival debut.
“Last year’s win was a bit of a shock
really because we only had six weeks to build the car, and then we hit dramas
with the fuel issue during the race so there was a lot of pressure on the team
and myself, so to take the win at the end of the day was a great feeling for
everyone involved,” said Holt.
“It will again be a pressure-packed few
weeks leading up to the event with adjusting the car to bring it into line with
new regulations and fitting it with a new engine and some new componentry, but
hopefully we will come out more than ready and with the car in great shape
–better shape than it was in 2007.
“That isn’t to say we expect to win
it – the competition is really fierce as we saw last year, and we won’t have as
much time to test the new componentry as we would have liked, but just as we did
last year we will go out there and give it all we’ve got and hopefully come out
with a good result.”
WPS Bathurst Motor Festival Event Director James
O’Brien said he was pleased the winners of 2007's running of the revived
endurance event had seen fit to return to defend their title.
“The 2007
WPS Bathurst 12 Hour was hard fought and Holt, Baird and Morris were deserving
winners,” said O’Brien.
“I am not surprised to see the winning
combination back to defend their title however they face even stiffer opposition
this year, with a bigger field overall and more competitors chasing outright
victory. “
The 2008 WPS Bathurst Motor Festival will be held at Mount
Panorama on February 8-10, incorporating the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on Sunday
February 10.
