Taylor maintains 100% win-rate
Mackenzie Taylor is celebrating after taking another superb ABKC
Winter Series win in the third round of the series at PFi, Lincolnshire (20
January).
The Ricky Flynn Motorsport (RFM) driver Mackenzie has become the driver to beat in British KF3 following
Sunday’s win and his previous Winter Series victories at PFI (4 November) and
Shenington (2 December).
Having qualified on pole, he survived the opening corner exchanges
– including Aaron Sherlock’s airborne kart clouting him on the shoulder – to
swiftly pass John Norris and Nick Christofaro, before delivering a text-book
drive to the flag.
Mastering the tricky conditions, Mackenzie went on to win by 11.87
seconds from Ashley Sutton.
“It was
very greasy and slippy all over the track” he explained afterwards. “There weren’t really many dry lines even though it looked like there
were. Once I got into the lead it was a case of just making sure I pushed and
got the laps times in.”
Despite his 100% win-rate in the Winter Series, Mackenzie will not
be around to defend his championship lead in the final two rounds: “My next race is the Winter Cup (at
Lonato, Italy 14-17 February),and that
clashes with the 4th round. After that, we’re doing the Margutti Cup
(Parma, Italy 7-9 March) so I think
any hope of winning the Winter Series has gone but it’s all good practice for
Super 1” he grinned.
“The whole team had everything perfect today” he said, ascribing his success to a
collective effort. “Gordy at Gordon Finlayson Racing got the engine spot-on. Ricky (Flynn) and my mechanic Bryn (Nuttall)
had the kart working brilliantly. In
fact, the whole team were preparing my kart - everyone helped and chipped in – it
couldn’t have been better set-up!”
Prior to his WSK (Winning Series Karting) debut,
Mackenzie will spend the rest of the week testing at La Conca, Italy
- which will host the opening round in March (13th-16th).
