ROCKINGHAM
circuit has pledged its full support for the 2008 Pickup Truck Championship
racing series by sponsoring one of its drivers.
Antony Hawkins will be representing Team Rockingham in the Number 98 truck
throughout the prestigious 10-meeting championship, which starts at Brands
Hatch in March.
As part of the sponsorship
package the 42-year-old from Sutton Coldfield, will receive vital track time
and will promote the Northamptonshire circuit throughout the season in a
special liveried Rockingham truck.
Rockingham is delighted to continue its support of local drivers following its
successful partnership of British Touring Car Championship driver Nick Leason
last season.
Charlotte Orton, Director of Sales & Marketing at Rockingham, said: “Since
Rockingham opened in 2001, pickup truck racing has been a permanent fixture in
the circuit’s racing calendar.
“Through our sponsorship of Antony and Team Rockingham, we are thrilled to
continue our support and association with the pickup truck series as it reaches
out to new audiences across the country.
“The pickup trucks always offer very exciting and competitive racing, and we
hope Antony will be in the thick of the action throughout the season and
challenging the leading drivers.”
The technical manager started his racing career in 1996, and won his first
title two years later, when he clinched the Standlake Championship. He claimed
the 2001 Outlaw Hot Rod crown before moving into pick-up truck racing in 2004.
Antony added: “I am absolutely delighted to be working with Rockingham, and
appreciate their fantastic support of both myself and the pickup truck racing
series.
“I have been racing at Rockingham since 2004, and have always enjoyed it on the
oval. It is an excellent circuit and one of the UK’s best facilities for both
competitors and fans.”
The 2008 Pickup Truck Championship will be held at circuits across the UK,
which includes four meetings at Rockingham. The series comes to the circuit on
April 19/20, May 25/26, July 12/13 and September 27/28.
