Gold Coast businessman and Australian motorsport stalwart Mark King will team up
with V8 Supercar development series-bound Michael Trimble and fellow seasoned
Bathurst endurance campaigner Mark Brame in his King Springs Mitsubishi EVO VIII
for the 2008 WPS Bathurst 12 Hour.
After 2007 saw 23 year-old Trimble take Carrera Cup Rookie of the Year honours
with a top ten series finish and then secure a drive in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar
Development series with Marty Brant’s Independent Race Cars alongside Jack
Perkins, the Gold Coaster is now set to kick-off his 2008 campaign with many a
lap around the iconic Mount Panorama.
“I am really looking forward to
heading to the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour with Mark and Mark,” said Trimble.
“They are really organised and have put so much preparation into the car
that I am sure we should be very capable of winning, so it should be good fun
and I just can’t wait to get out there.”
King Springs managing director
and team owner King said he was pleased to welcome the youngster on board for
his Bathurst endurance campaign after sponsoring his career for some years.
“King Springs has been a personal sponsor of Michael’s racing career for
the past four years, and it has been wonderful to see him grow throughout that
time to a position where he can come on board for our endurance campaign,” said
King.
“The reality of the situation is that Michael is a skilled driver
- he proved that last year with a podium finish in the Carrera Cup series which
is no mean feat, and so we figured it was time he came and had a crack at the
WPS Bathurst 12 hour with us!”
Trimble is by no means the only
experienced racer in the King Springs entry, with both King and Brame having
competed in every 12 hour and 24 hour endurance event held at Mount Panorama
including the 2007 run around the clock, seeing no shortage of Bathurst miles,
or class wins, under their collective belts.
Couple that with further
experience and class wins at the Eastern Creek, Sandown and Winton circuits, and
you have quite possibly one of this country’s most experienced Australian
endurance racing pairs.
“Endurance racing, especially at the mountain,
involves a good strategy, an enormous team effort, and a bit of luck,” said
Brame.
“Once it gets into your blood, you are hooked no matter the
result, and you just keep getting dragged back for another red hot go.
“Mark and I teamed up last year, and we were running in second position
until we had an issue that unfortunately took us out of contention, so I can’t
wait to return this year with him and his team for our 2008 assault.”
Like Brame, King also boasts an extensive history in Australian motor
racing encompassing not only the aforementioned Bathurst endurance pursuits but
also two National championships in Performance Cars amongst a front-running 11
year involvement, as well as stints in Geminis, HQs and the Australian NASCAR
series.
“Mark and I work well together, so I am really looking forward
to getting back to the Mountain and getting into it after last year’s result,”
said King.
“If you talk to anyone that has raced at Bathurst they will
tell you that you just have to go back, as although it can be ‘heartbreak hill’
sometimes it is just without a doubt a phenomenal track.
“The WPS
Bathurst 12 hour concept is a great idea, as not only the drivers get involved
but the whole team can feel they have had a part in the result, so I am really
looking forward to heading back again.”
The 2008 WPS Bathurst Motor
Festival will be held at Mount Panorama on February 8-10, incorporating the WPS
Bathurst 12 Hour on Sunday February 10.
