Hampshire racing driver Ollie Hancock has been honoured with a
special award to recognise his performances in the World Sportscar Masters
Series.
At a Gala Ceremony in Brussels last weekend, the 20-year-old was named the
World Sportscar Masters ‘Drivers’ Driver of the Season’, an award voted for by
his fellow competitors in the series which caters for Le Mans type Group 4
prototypes built between the mid 1960s to 1974
Hancock competed in a number of WSM events in 2007 and produced a string of
impressive performances. Notable displays came in the wet at Silverstone, where
he led the race by almost a lap driving a Lola T212 on slick tyres, and at
Porto, where he piloted a Lotus 23B to third overall against a field of cars
with vastly more brake horse power.
Hancock’s main focus in 2007 saw him take his first steps into modern
single-seater racing, finishing third overall and best-placed rookie in the
Formula Renault BARC championship and he will return this year for a crack at
the title.

won this award. To be recognised by the other drivers in the series makes the
honour extra special. It’s also a great reward for all the hard work and effort
we put into developing the car throughout the season. This year I’m focusing on
winning the Formula Renault BARC title, but I am also hoping to do some selected
World Sportscar Masters events when commitments allow.”
