Dutch teenager Mathijs Harkema has become the second driver
to sign for Motaworld Racing in order to contest the Formula BMW Europe
championship which begins on April 27 at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Harkema, 18, from Maastricht
has been racing karts since he was five years old and he has twice won the
Belgian Championship. Last year he finished ninth overall in the Formula BMW
Germany championship with Josef Kaufmann Racing and he was the fourth best Rookie.
He
said “I am looking forward to working with team owner Alan Waite and
driver coach Alf Boarer who have a lot of experience. They are very
professional and will help and support my racing career.”
The Chatham-based Motaworld squad has not yet had the
opportunity to test Harkema but the Sikkens-sponsored driver comes with a
strong recommendation.
Alan Waite said “Mathijs performed well last year. Josef
Kaufmann rates him highly - and we wanted a second-year driver.”
Harkema joins Monaco-based Thomas Hillsdon in the
Motaworld team. Discussions are still taking place with several drivers
regarding the third seat in the squad
