UMA/P1-AFR
Drivers Abdul Aziz Al Yaeesh and Fahad
Hizam went into the 4th round of the Chevy Lumina CSV Championship
looking for more of the success that they have had during the first half of the
season. The competition was expectedly
fierce, but both UMA/P1 AFR drivers felt that they were up for the challenge.
The first race saw Abdul Aziz qualify in 3rd position, despite
the car experiencing mechanical woes.
Hizam also qualified very well in 6th position. The race went was full of intense action, and
not all of it positive, with Hizam being hit from behind and on the side in two
different incidents, both affecting his position adversely. Hizam refused to be stopped though, and still
clawed his way back to another impressive top-10 finish. Abdul Aziz continued his successes as well,
finishing the race in second just behind Fahad Al
Musalam, completing another double top-10 for UMA/P1-AFR, the fifth time in 8
races this season.
The
second race saw the problems with contact switch over to Abdul Aziz, when he
was aggressively knocked off course by two of the top championship contenders,
who barreled into the side of Abdul Aziz’s Lumina CSV without even braking in
order to advance position. The incident
became even more questionable when the stewards disqualified Abdul Aziz for
involvement in the accident, negating a valiant fight to climb back up the order
and finish in 3rd position.
Hizam was able to carry the torch for UMA/P1-AFR, and finish with
another top-5. Abdul Aziz currently sits
second in the Championship, trailing Al Musalam by just 19 points with 4 races
to go. Hizam currently sits in 6th
place in the points, placing both UMA/P1-AFR drivers in the top ten.
The next
round of the Chevy Lumina CSV Middle East Championship takes place on February
21-23, 2008 in Bahrain, as a part of the prestigious Bahrain 24 Hours race
weekend.
