Subaru double act for WPS Bathurst 12 Hour PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 February 2008
carfrontthumb.jpgGold Coast motor racing team Wilson Brothers Racing have thrown their support behind the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour by registering two Subaru WRX Stis for this week’s Event.

The two rally-spec vehicles, run to Group 3E production car specs, place the Wilson Brothers outfit as one of the few two-car teams for the Event and expands on their 2007 involvement which saw their singular Subaru entry, piloted by Christian D’Agostin, Tim Sipp and Scott Nicholas, qualify sixth. Oldest brother Cameron Wilson said that following the expansion of the brothers’ involvement in the Australian Performance Car Championship in 2007 to two cars, it seemed a logical step to expand their WPS Bathurst Motor Festival campaign also.

“With one entry in the 2007 WPS Bathurst 12 Hour we started from grid six ahead of guys like Chris Atkinson, and as a privateer entry my younger brother Benn and I were really very proud of that,” said Wilson.

“Although our Bathurst tilt came to an unfortunate end due to engine issues, wecarsidethumb.jpg learnt a tonne from our run there and with two cars for the 2008 event are looking forward to putting what we learnt into practice.

“Our highly experienced crew bring knowledge from all walks of life to our operation, and they are very excited about the challenges running two cars in an event such as this will throw up.

“We are also really pleased to announce motoring veteran Charlie O’Brien will be acting as team manager and mentor during our campaign, so we will be drawing on his wealth of experience as a previous Bathurst endurance winner for our many runs up the Mountain.”

Lead drivers for the two entries will by Kurt Kratzman in #25 and Daniel Schulz in #26.

Kratzman, a fellow Queenslander to the WBR boys and experienced behind the wheels of Geminis, Holden HQs, Saloon Cars and at Bathurst after competing in the 1993 Bathurst 12 Hour, will be joined by New Zealand’s Brent Collins and Inky Tulloch, both of which are extremely experienced and front-runners in their fields.

Schulz, who holds plenty of “Targa” events to his name and experience in the F3 Australian Championships, will be joined in the #26 entry by NZ GP champion and leading Toyota Racing Series competitor Andy Knight and ex-Australian F3 Champion and reserve driver for A1GP Great Britain James Winslow.

The 2008 WPS Bathurst Motor Festival will be held at Mount Panorama on February 8-10, incorporating the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on Sunday February 10.

Tickets can be purchased from Ticketek on 13 28 49 with discounted pricing available to patrons who purchase prior to the event. All patrons receive free entry to the Bathurst National Motor Racing Museum with each ticket, and children under 12 are free when they enter with a paying adult.

Access to the top of Mount Panorama will be open throughout the three day Event, with patrons able to catch a shuttle or drive their own car to the Mountain top for a unique viewing point of the track, with the Big Screen ensuring they miss none of the action.

The Wilson Brothers Racing outfit of Cameron and Benn Wilson is based on the Gold Coast and run out of
the Wilson brother’s business Platinum Auto Care. Associate sponsors are In Gear Industries, Castrol Oils, Mercury Motorsport Dyno Tuning, Third Dimension Race Fabrications, Gabba Gear Boxes, Signs in Paradise and Racer Industries.

Involved in running hire go-kart facilities in the past, the Wilson brothers upgraded in the late 1990s to be involved in the Queensland Gemini Series, which has proven to be one of the best classes for racing in Australia in relation to competitiveness with generally 30 identical cars duking it out for outright glory. The brothers have also played their part in the progression of several young motoring identities' careers including Jack Elsegood, Ben Dark, Matt O’Grady, Rhys Hansford and Greg Willis.
