True Blue
Motorsports which was formerly Thrifty Motor Sport proceeded through practice
day, day one of the three day Bathurst Motor Festival that culminates with WPS
Bathurst 12 Hour production car race with its six driver, two car entry incident
free.
The team’s
lead car the Mazda 3 MPS steered by Dad’s Army of Allan Shephard, Dennis Cribbin and Len Cave (with an average age of 59.4 years) was
second fastest in Class C (for Hot Hatch Performance Cars) in the initial
session and third fastest in the second outing.
“The Shire
Conveyancer Mazda 3 MPS has had a
complete makeover in the off season with a complete re-engineering of brakes,
shocks and fuel system,” said team principle Shephard. Despite digs about their
ages, he feels the team has the experience for this type of
race.
“Dennis and I
have done numerous longer distance events including Nurburgring together on
several occasions while Len has the pace to up the ante should there be the
need,” he added. Whilst day one is about setup and testing, Cave was the fastest
of the three at 2:43.7886.
In the
meantime the team’s Toyota Celica driven by the West Australian contingent of
Alan Letcher, Clint Harvey and Nathan Callaghan are contesting Class E
(Production Sports Under $50,000) improved to be second fastest in the class at
the end of the day and must rate in the closest matched pairings with just three
tenths of a second covering the trio.
The True Blue Motorsport
Mazda 3 MPS is supported by The Shire Conveyancer at Cronulla and Camden, Cribbin Blencowe Real Estate in the Southern Highlands, Eagle SMF Workshop Equipment, Thrifty
Car Rental and Briffa Smash Repairs while Shephard has sport newcomer GWS
Personnel in Parkes as a personal sponsor.
