True Blue
Motorsports team’s Bathurst 12 Hour effort was a celebration on one hand and
relief on the other following a second in class for their Thrify Toyota Celica
and a horrifying crash for the team car Thrify Mazda 3 MPS. It was a disastrous
day for the latter which was an early race casualty with a blown turbo charger –
even before team principle Allan
Shephard made the first scheduled
stop.
Mechanics
toiled for hours to replace the blown unit so co-drivers Dennis Cribbin and
Len Cave could at least get
some competitive laps in. It was when Cave was at the wheel and entering the
high speed Chase, that a deflating left rear tyre was believed to have triggered
the crash that was a sequence of horrifying rollovers that tore the front
suspension, gearbox and engine out of the car before it came to rest right side
up.
Cave
extracted himself from the wreck before the medics rushed to his aid. He was
taken from the scene for a mandatory physical check over which found him bruised
but otherwise okay.
In the
meantime the Celica shared by West Australians Clint Harvey, Alan Letcher and
Nathan Callaghan spent most of the day fighting with similar Osborne Motorsport
Toyota for the lead in Class E until the car was hit from behind and spun around
whilst in a safety car period. After repairs to the front end, the trio fought
back to finish second in class.
The True Blue Motorsport
Mazda 3 MPS is supported by The Shire Conveyancer at Cronulla and Camden, Cribbin Blencowe Real Estate in the Southern Highlands, Eagle SMF Workshop Equipment, Thrifty
Car Rental and Briffa Smash Repairs while Shephard has sport newcomer GWS
Personnel in Parkes as a personal sponsor.
