The A1GP World Cup of Motor Sport`, which enjoyed a thrilling first season with 11 races on five continents, kicks off again in Zandvoort in Holland on the on the first of October.

The spectacular grand prix car has a 3.4 Litre V8 engine which produces 550 horsepower, and it will be demonstrated at Kirkistown by Michael Devaney, the 21-year-old Dublin driver who raced for the Irish team on three occasions last season, finishing fourth in the sprint races in Australia and China. And given the right weather conditions it is likely to lap the 1.54 mile circuit at under the official lap the record time of 51.44 seconds, a speed of 105.81 mph! Even though an official lap record can only be created during an actual race, so the time will be academic, the spectacle of a racing car taking the Debters Dip corner at speeds approaching 180mph should be quite something to behold.

A1 Team Ireland will present the car to the media at a photo call in Customs House Square Belfast at 11.00am. on Friday 25th. August.. A1 Team Ireland Team Principal Mark Gallagher, who hails from Belfast, said: “It will be a proud moment for the team to be able to show off our car to the citizens of Belfast, and for me it will be a special occasion as it is my home city. A1GP made a spectacular entry on the international motor sport scene last season, and the whole concept of nation racing nation has captured the imagination of the public like no other formula since the introduction of Grand Prix racing in the 1950s.”

“Given the passion for motorsport that there is in Ulster I am sure everyone will be impressed with the A1GP car as we prepare to represent Ireland in the second A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.”

Another notable Ulster link is that John Watson commentates on the series on television and that Belfast’s Martin Donnelly, ex Lotus F1™ driver has given the team support and advice in recent testing.

The A1GP demonstration, is yet another highlight in a day which will feature the heats and finals of the Irish FF1600 Festival, and a selection of races featuring Sportscars, Formula Vee`s, and the powerful Formula Libre cars.
