Ollie Hancock is targeting the Formula Renault BARC title after being signed
by leading squad Scorpio Motorsport to contest the 2008 season.
The Leicestershire-based team took four race wins on their way to third in
the BTCC-supporting Formula Renault UK championship in 2007 and will now launch
a one-car assault on the sister BARC championship with Hancock at the wheel.
The 20-year-old Hampshire racer finished third overall and best placed rookie
in his debut season of Formula Renault BARC last year, and having worked hard to
secure a strong package for 2008, he was understandably delighted to have
finalised his plans.
“I’m very happy that four months of hard work have paid
off,” Ollie said. “Not only has
Scorpio got a vast amount of experience in Formula Renault, but they have
enjoyed a huge amount of success. With everything now in place I’m expecting to
mount a serious championship challenge and I can’t wait for the first round at
Brands Hatch on 23rd March.”
Scorpio Motorsport Team Principal Jon Petit said: “We’re very excited to have got Ollie on board. Initially we
hadn’t intended to enter the BARC championship, but Ollie was keen to join us
and considering the performances he produced and experience he gained last year,
we see this as a great opportunity to go for the championship. Everyone at the
team is looking forward to the prospect of working with Ollie in 2008.”
