Marcos Ambrose has posted the 42nd fastest time during qualifying for tomorrow’s
Camping World 300 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida today.
Ambrose set a time of 50.81 seconds around the 2.5-mile superspeedway in the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion in qualifying. Ambrose and his JTG Racing team sacrificed qualifying speed to run with a race set-up today, with cars impounded between today’s qualifying and tomorrow’s 120-lap race, the first of the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. The Australian is confident that he has a good race set-up for the event and is looking forward to tomorrow’s race at the fast Daytona venue, one of his favourites race tracks. Tony Stewart will start from pole in tomorrow’s Camping World 300 ahead of Clint Bowyer and Jason Leffler. Marcos Ambrose – #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion “Qualifying at the superspeedways is never the most important thing,” said Ambrose. “I think we could have run a couple of tenths of a second faster and with the times being so close that would have us further up the grid, but really it all means nothing and it’s tomorrow that counts. “We have got a great handling race car and we have sacrificed some qualifying speed to have a good car in the race. “The first half of the race will be all about sitting back and letting things settle down, then once things have settled we can start to move forward.” RESULTS: Qualifying 1. #20 Tony Stewart 49.74 seconds 2. #2 Clint Bowyer 49.97 3. #38 Jason Leffler 49.99 4. #40 Dario Franchitti 50.08 5. #18 Kyle Busch 50.08 6. #1 Johnny Sauter 50.11 7. #41 Bryan Clauson 50.12 8. #21 Bobby Labonte 50.12 9. #32 Denny Hamlin 50.15 10. #33 Kevin Harvick 50.16 42. #59 Marcos Ambrose 50.81 RACE SCHEDULE Local Florida (US Eastern) Times Race – 120 laps Saturday 16 February 2008 1:15pm US Eastern UNITED STATES TV SCHEDULE Saturday 16 February 2008 ESPN2 12:00pm US Eastern AUSTRALIAN TIMES Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Times Race – 120 laps Sunday 17 February 2008 5:15am AEDST AUSTRALIAN TV SCHEDULE Sunday 17 February 2008 Ten HD 4:00am – 8:00am EDST ABOUT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY Location: Daytona Beach, Florida Race Distance: 120 laps – 300 miles (482.8 kilometres) Track Length: 2.5 miles (4.023 kilometres) Degree of Banking in Turns: 31 degrees Degree of Banking in Back Straight: 3 degrees Degree of Banking in Front Straight (Tri-Oval): 18 degrees NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RECORD BOOK Defending Nationwide Race Champion: Kevin Harvick Defending Nationwide Polesitter: Aric Almirola Marcos Ambrose 2007 Race Finish: 16th Marcos Ambrose 2007 Qualifying: 37th |
