evolve from what was a simple concept to one that encourages people and
families from all walks of life to re-visit the ways of drag racing from the 60s
and 70s in a fun, family-orientated environment.
Shannon’s Nostalgia
Drag Racing Series Event Promoter John Colbran said the awe-inspiring historic
racing series isn’t just about the cars, but the people who love them and the
lifestyle of old-school drag racing.
“The Nostalgia racing scene in
Australia is growing bigger and better every year, with the entries each year
easily outdoing the previous,” said Colbran.
“You have the ‘Power’ of
the cars, with some capable of running in the six second margins, and then you
have the ‘Passion’ of the people who love the cars, love the lifestyle and the
old-school scene, and who come out with their own restored machines for the
Shannon’s Show and Shine we have at each event.
“The pressure of full-on
race meetings is absent, everyone is just there to have a good time and bring
the kids along for a great day out and get back-in touch with drag racing at its
grassroots base – these Events aren’t just about your hard-core racer, instead
its about everyone, with something on offer for every interest and taste.

The Nostalgia weekend is sure to provide plenty of action and family fun for the whole family
phenomenal, spread across nine categories including the American and
Australian Muscle classes, the Gas-ers, the Junior Fuels, Hamsters and
Slingshots, the Hot Rods, the Modified Bikes, and the Vintage Gas, along with a
Classic Car and Hot Rod Showcase that absolutely anyone can get involved in.
“With everything on the bill for this Sunday, I really encourage anyone
that wants to be part of an event where you can take a step back in time and see
front engined dragsters, altereds, hot rods and American and Australian muscle
cars and sedans both racing and as part of the show in the pits, to come on down
to Willowbank Raceway and get in amongst it.”
Willowbank Raceway
Managing Director Steve Bettes said he was looking forward to some exciting
racing from the Nostalgia entries.
“Willowbank Raceway was where the
Nostalgia series, now in its third year, first got underway, and I am always
excited to welcome the series back to Willowbank,” said Bettes.
“With
the cars and the competitors, and lots of attractions for the whole family, this
Sunday is shaping up to be another great event at Willowbank Raceway as we get
ready for the Tin Top Titles in April.”
For Willowbank Raceway, the
Shannon’s Nostalgia Series event this weekend will feature nicely in the
countdown towards the Tin Top Titles on April 18 and 19, which will see the
return of the most incredible all-sedan confrontations as Top Doorslammer and
Pro Stock categories headline this time honoured tradition of Queensland drag
racing.
In essence the format of the Tin Top Titles will see the
realisation of drag racing activities inclusive of Group One sedans plus the
vastly popular Fast Fours Jamboree and Powercruise scenes which have continually
attracted massive interest among drag racing fans.
