15 year old mini sprint racer Jessica Brannam of Johnsburg, IL won her first ever mini sprint race this past weekend. She did it while competing in the 1200cc mini sprint division at Wilmot Speedway in Wilmot, WI. Jessica has been competing in the Wisconsin Illinois Mini Sprint series for a year and a half.

Jessica’s victory came to her in dominating fashion. She led every lap of the race and finished a half of a lap ahead of the second place finisher. The many fans in attendance went crazy with cheers as Jessica crossed the finish line to take the victory.

Even though she has dominated the go kart circuit for years, Jessica has struggle with her ill handling mini sprint. After a discussion with her car owner it was decided that they would borrow a different car for Jessica to drive this week. She took full advantage of the situation and proved what she can do with a good car.

Jessica had this to say about the victory. “I always new I was capable of winning in these cars. It felt so good to finally do it. It almost did not seem real. I felt like I was dreaming.” She went on to say, “I have been saying all along that there was something wrong with my regular car. I guess this proves I was correct. We have had many good mechanics look it over and nobody could find the problem. The car is as old as me and there is no telling what has happened to it before I got it.”

There were some mile stones that Jessica set on the way to her victory. She became the youngest person to win a feature race in the WIMS series. She is also the only female to win a race in this series.

Jessica is well on her way to a long and successful career in racing. You can follow her racing through her website www.jessicabrannam.com
