Mike Jordan gave his Eurotech squad’s ‘new’ Honda Integra its maiden
test at Brands Hatch yesterday (Wednesday) – before flying out to
America with son Andrew to watch the 50th running of the legendary
Daytona 500 stock car race on what will be his 50th birthday.
The
Integra adds to the identical model raced by Jordan Snr in previous
years, but which will be taken over in 2008 by 18-year-old Andrew for
his debut HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season as the John
Guest-backed Eurotech team expands to two cars.
The latest Integra is the same car that Team Halfords driver Gordon
Shedden used to achieve four race victories in 2006 – the same year
that Jordan Snr, aged 48 years and 65 days, became the BTCC’s oldest
winner on record in the Halfords/Matt Neal 2005 title-winning Integra.
Straight
after yesterday’s test, both father and son headed for the airport
ahead of their flight this morning to the USA for this coming Sunday’s
Daytona 500 – a birthday present from Jordan Snr’s wife Judith!
This
year of course also marks the 50th anniversary of the BTCC – notably,
when Jack Sears was crowned inaugural Champion on 5 October 1958,
Jordan Snr would have been just seven months and 18 days old!
