Trimble seventh on V8 debut in Clipsal opener PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 22 February 2008
Michael Trimble has finished an impressive seventh in his first V8 Supercar race inmtrimble1-th.jpg Round 1 of the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide today.

Trimble started the first of two races for the round from eighth position after an equally-solid performance in qualifying earlier in the day. The Gold Coast-based driver held his ground in the early stages of the 24-lap race in the #64 Global Jet Holden Commodore in pursuit of Grant Denyer. Mid-race Trimble was elevated to seventh place when leader Dean Canto retired with fuel pick-up problems and over the course of the final laps Trimble was able to catch Matthew White, but in the end came home in seventh.

mtrimble2-th.jpgTrimble will start tomorrow morning’s second race from seventh position, where the 23-year-old will look to improve on today’s solid debut, where in both qualifying and Race 1, he was the top rookie driver in the 29-car field.

Steve Owen won today’s opening race ahead of Jack Perkins and Tim Slade, while Canto won pole earlier in the day.

“This is my first round so I am happy with the progress so far,” said Trimble.

“I’ve still got a bit to learn about these cars. The H-pattern gearbox is a tricky thing to learn and I made a few small mistakes in that race, so I will be looking to do better on that front tomorrow.

“There is still room for improvement on my part because I haven’t even done 200 laps in a V8 Supercar yet. I am lucky to be with such a good team because the IRCmtrimble3-th.jpg crew are giving me great equipment and teaching me a lot.

“I pushed to catch Denyer and then in the end we both got onto the back of White. I couldn’t find a way through but I will be looking to make inroads tomorrow.

“Today was my first standing start in the car, so initially that was my biggest concern. Now I’m pleased to have this solid finish under my belt and we can look at going better tomorrow.”
