Three up-and-coming drivers have tested a Formula Palmer Audi car for the first
time this week, including former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill’s 17 year
old son, Joshua.
Hill was joined by T-Car graduate
Dan Rozwadowski and Formula Renault race winner Jack Piper for an initial FPA
test to get to grips with the single-seater. Josh, who has already tested a
Formula Ford and has signed to compete in part of this year’s Ginetta Junior
series, battled against fog and low visibility to set some strong lap
times.
Joshua Hill said: “I’ve never felt acceleration like this before, the
Ford and Ginetta are
Joshua Hill, son of F1 champion Damon, had a strong first Formula Palmer Audi test
nothing compared to this. These cars are fast, the only
experience I’ve had that comes close was when my dad took me out in a two-seater
GP Masters car.”
Jack Piper also had a successful
first session testing. The 17 year old has only been racing cars for a year,
but has already scored his maiden victory at Spa whilst racing in Formula
Renault 1600 in Belgium. Jack was introduced to FPA
by his father Kevin, a journalist and TV presenter who is also a friend of
Martin Brundle.
Piper commented: "These cars accelerate quick but the best thing is
how they stop, the braking is awesome! I'm happy with my performance today
Jack Piper quickly got to grips with the FPA during his first outing
as
it's my first go in the car but I know I can go quicker. I just need a few more
tests and then I will be right on the pace. I can't wait for the season to
start!”
Finally, 17 year old Dan Rozwadowski
is contemplating a switch from tin tops to single seaters this year after
completing his first Formula Palmer Audi test. Dan has raced in the T-Cars
series for the past two seasons, finishing fourth in
2007.
Dan’s first
FPA test opened his eyes to the differences between T-Cars and FPA: "With FPA cars, you have to pay attention 100% of the
time
Dan Rozwadowski is considering a move to FPA after two seasons in T-Cars
as you are going so quick, otherwise you will be off," he said.
"It's unlike a T-Car where you seem to have
loads of time. I did a few hours in the car but set my quickest time just one
hour into the test. I think I was getting mentally and physically tired but
next time I will know what to expect, so I will be able to improve my
time.”
