Productive pre-season keeps smile on Herrons face PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 24 February 2008
JHR Developments sensation Andrew Herron continued his productive SEAT Cupra Championship pre-season this past week with a brace of excellent outings at Rockingham Motor Speedway and Silverstone National Circuit.

Bouncing back strongly from the 115mph accident he suffered at Donington Park a fortnight ago, the 19-year-old from Dromore in Co. Down was also due to make his return to the Leicestershire venue on Tuesday. But with temperatures struggling to even rise above freezing, the planned run was scrapped.
Andrew arrived at Rockingham on Thursday, 21st February, confident of puttingandrew20herron20-20silverstone20testing.jpg together a solid test run and so it proved with a very good outing at the Northamptonshire track, the venue for the third and fourth rounds of the championship on 12th/13th April.

“We tried a lot of different things with the car at Rockingham and I really feel it was one of the most productive days we’ve had so far with the SEAT”, said the Brian Herron Contracts-backed racer, “Our pace was good and I’m happy with the progress we’re continuing to make.”

Travelling the 40 or so miles across Northamptonshire to Silverstone National Circuit on Friday, 22nd February, Andrew joined several other SEAT Cupra Championship contenders at the home of the British Grand Prix and again enjoyed a very promising test session.

Now running with white paintwork on his car, which will form the basis of his 2008 colour scheme, the Northern Irishman was delighted with his day’s work at Silverstone as he lapped with fantastic consistency to post times very similar to those set by fellow ELF Renault Clio Cup graduates Robert Lawson and Martin Byford.

“Silverstone went really well, the more I’m in the car the more my confidence grows”, added Andrew, “During the last session it was very close between myself, Robert and Martin so that’s given me another boost. Overall we’ve had two very good days of testing this week and the important thing is I’m putting in quick laps very consistently.”

Andrew is expected to continue his pre-season programme in early March although there is the possibility of him returning to the mainland sooner to have another run out at Silverstone this coming Friday, 29th February.
