Melbourne’s Astuti Motorsport
has conquered the tough challenge of the Clipsal 500 Adelaide by twice putting
driver Daniel Schulz on the podium in the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Opes
Prime National Class.
In what will be his last outing for the team - at
least in the short term - due to international work commitments, Schulz finished
second in both races held on the Adelaide street circuit driving his #24 CMA
Recycling / Shell Racing Solutions Astuti Motorsport Dallara F304 – Renault.
On both occasions Schulz was little more than one second behind the class winner
in a weekend that featured intensely close and aggressive racing.
Mirroring Schulz’ strong run was #23 Astuti Motorsport driver Ray
Chamberlain who scored his best ever outright and Class results yet, in
Adelaide.
Ray finished 12th outright and 6th in the Championship Class
in race two to record his best result in just his second-ever Formula 3 race
meeting.
Schulz’ performances were amongst his best ever in the series,
bouncing back from some early brake pressure problems in practice and qualifying
one to record the two strong finishes.
“I was very excited to race
at the Clipsal 500,” Schulz said. “It was a fantastic experience. We had a few
setbacks in practice and qualifying but we bounced back from that and scored two
second-place finishes which is a really positive result.
”It was a very
memorable weekend.”
“It’s great to see Ray
having a fantastic time – and every time he gets in the car he goes quicker and
quicker,” Team owner Sam Astuti said.
”He is driving really well and
doing what he set out to do – which was collect a point or two in each race.
”Daniel did a great job all weekend despite the brake pressure problems
he had in first qualifying, which reflects his results there. He kept the car
off the walls, was as fast as everyone else in his class and was able to record
two second place finishes which is an excellent result.”
In the
Australian GT Championship Astuti Motorsport’s Aston Martin DBRS9 driven by John
Kaias showed plenty of pace, however an unfortunate off at turn one broke a rear
suspension lower control arm in the first race – the part unable to be repaired
to enable the car to compete safely for the remainder of the meeting.
Astuti Motorsport will next
be in action at the Australian Grand Prix, for round three of the Australian GT
Championship, between March 15 – 18.
