A professional model has signed to
race in the 2008 Formula Palmer Audi Championship. As well as being one of the
hottest young motorsport talents around, 21 year Paul Rees also models for
American clothing company, Abercrombie and Fitch.
Rees finished seventh in last year’s
Formula Renault Championship and in 2006 he raced in Formula BMW. Paul is the
son of 1960s Formula 2 and Formula 1 driver, Alan
Rees.
Testing at Bedford Autodrome this
week ahead of the FPA season, Paul was confident of doing well in the
single-seater world of FPA: “This is my first test in the FPA machine and I am
very impressed with how it drives and a little surprised by the amount of power
it has. I have one aim this year and that is to win the
championship, I know that once I have a bit more practice I will be bang on the
pace and able to win races.’’
With some of the FPA grid returning
for their second year in the series, Paul is not worried about any potential
advantage they might have: “Drivers who are racing again this
year will know the cars much better but I have the advantage of knowing all the
tracks we race at as I have done them all in BMW and Renault. I chose to run in
FPA as it is the most level playing field.”
