Scorpio Motorsport’s David Epton heads to Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk
a week from now, 12th/13th August, confident of another brace of
excellent race results following a highly successful Formula Renault UK
outing at Donington Park last Sunday.
After finishing in the top eight during Round 11 at the Leicestershire
venue, David produced perhaps his best drive of the season so far to
climb from 12th on the grid to a superb top six finish at the chequered
flag during Round 12.
In a championship campaign which is going from strength to strength,
the Bombardier Learjet, Universal Weather & Aviation Inc and Jet
Air International Lebanon & Germany sponsored star is improving
every time he goes out in the car and as Rounds 13 and 14 of the season
approach, the promise of a podium result is ever more realistic.
“I think Snetterton will be quite good and I’m looking forward to it”,
commented the Preston-based 25-year-old. “We had a good car at the
recent Snetterton test and we tried a lot of variations during the
pre-race test at Donington last week so we’re confident we’ll have a
good set-up for next weekend’s races.
“We’re certainly looking for top six places in both rounds. We’ve been
quick in second qualifying at each meeting so far this year and
particularly good in the races. Now we need to ensure we can start
qualifying well on new tyres to start the first race of a weekend
higher up the grid.”
Thanks to the combined efforts of David and Scorpio team-mate Will
Bratt, the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed squad is currently a clear
fourth overall in the entrant championship standings.
David, who originally hails from Fleet in Hampshire, is himself on the
cusp of breaking into the coveted top 10 in the driver table and
another performance of the like enjoyed at Donington Park last Sunday
would be most welcome.
He added: “Our pace in the second race at Donington was good. We were
fourth fastest on the lap times so that certainly bodes well for
Snetterton. If we can qualify in the top six for both races we stand a
great chance of another successful weekend.
“The key to Snetterton is the first two corners which are critical to a
quick lap as you need to build up good speed to carry out onto the
Revett Straight. Then it’s important you’re good on the brakes into the
Esses. It’s a good circuit but one where you can’t afford to make too
many mistakes.”
Pre-event testing will be held on Friday, 11th August, while qualifying
for Rounds 13 and 14 of the Formula Renault UK season will take place
on Saturday, 12th August. The first session is scheduled to start at
09.00 with session two expected to commence at 14.40.
Both races will take place on Sunday, 13th August, with Round 13
timetabled to get underway at 11.40 and Round 14 set to begin at 15.35.
Motors TV, available at channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform and via
cable operator NTL on channel 173, will broadcast both Snetterton races
live.
