With just a month to go before the start of the 2008 HiQ MSA British
Touring Car Championship, three of the established top teams – Team
RAC, Team Halfords and John Guest Racing – tested their cars at
Silverstone today (Friday).
Colin Turkington, the reigning Independent Drivers’ Champion was
joined by new team-mate Stephen Jelley in Team RAC’s distinctive pair
of orange BMW 320sis. Turkington’s car sported a slightly revised
livery which is expected to appear on both German machines.
Gordon
Shedden, third in last year’s final Drivers’ standings with four wins
and who, like Turkington, must surely start the year as a title
favourite, was in action in Team Halfords’ Honda Civic. Tom Chilton,
who has joined Halfords from reigning champion Vauxhall’s VXR squad,
also drove.
Meanwhile, Mike and Andrew Jordan –
who will form the BTCC’s first father and son line-up in 2008 – both
continued to put miles on their John Guest Racing squad’s Honda
Integras.
As well, fellow Integra driver John
George was on track for the JH Motorsport Racing with JAG outfit. The
Cornish driver enjoyed improved results towards the end of 2007 and
will have high hopes for the forthcoming season …
The 2008 BTCC season – which marks the championship’s 50th anniversary – begins at Brands Hatch in Kent on Sunday 30 March.
