Wintry temperatures and gusty conditions didn’t make for the most enjoyable
of test days at Silverstone National Circuit yesterday, Friday, 29th February,
but Hillspeed duo Ahmad Al Harthy and Menasheh Idafar helped heat things up a
little with stunning pace.
The Formula Renault BARC drivers, both of whom head into the upcoming 2008
season with a great chance of FR2000 Class podium success, took to the
Northamptonshire track during a general test session and produced impressive lap
times.
Focused on solidifying its status as one of the foremost teams in the
championship, Hathersage based Hillspeed is in the midst of an important
pre-season test programme which is certainly going from strength to
strength.
Reflecting on the day’s action, team principal Richard Ollerenshaw said:
“It’s been another excellent test for us and I’m delighted with the pace both
Ahmad and Menasheh produced today. They were very evenly matched during all of
the sessions and very quick with it.
“Both drivers were running comfortably in the 57 second bracket which shows
they certainly have the capability to run at the sharp end this season. One of
things I’m most impressed with is the way Ahmad and Menasheh were immediately up
to speed today, that has given the team a lot of confidence.”
Although missing from today’s test outing, Essex 16-year-old Michael Lyons
will make his track return at Snetterton in Norfolk on Tuesday, 11th
March.
Forming an integral part of Hillspeed’s exciting three-car line-up for the
2008 Formula Renault BARC campaign, Lyons has already made good progress in
earlier tests and will undoubtedly be a driver to keep an eye on throughout the
year.
Hillspeed will next be in action this coming Tuesday, 4th March,
at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent alongside teams and drivers from the
Formula Renault UK series.
