Will Bratt is delighted to confirm he will make his Formula 3 test debut
next Tuesday, 11th March, at Valencia in Spain.
News about the 19-year-old’s progression up the motor racing ladder comes
after several weeks of discussions which have seen the Banbury ace carefully
considering opportunities in a variety of categories. However, the invitation by
Emilio de Villota to lead his Spanish F3 team’s 2008 championship challenge was
by far the most interesting one.
Next week’s two-day test outing at Valencia will act as the pre-cursor to a
full deal to contest the FIAT Spanish F3 Championship this year; Will stepping
up a level after three seasons in the Formula Renault UK series where he
finished a superb third overall in 2007 driving for Apotex Scorpio
Motorsport.
Looking ahead to his maiden F3 run, Will commented: “We hadn’t really
considered Spanish F3 until we received Emilio’s offer but it now makes perfect
sense and I’m really looking forward to the Valencia test.
“I’m confident racing in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship will be good
for my career, particularly when you consider the championship uses four of the
Formula One/GP2 circuits and it will also support the European Grand Prix this
year on the brand new Valencia street circuit.
“Several of the top drivers in F1 and GP2 graduated from Spanish F3 so that
bodes well. Of course, everything hinges on the test really but it should be
good and I can’t wait to have my first experience of an F3 car.”
Alongside the benefits a season in Spanish F3 would bring in the motor
racing sense, including the chance to race as support to the 2008 European Grand
Prix on the Valencia street circuit, the championship calendar also fits in well
with Will’s final year of study at Oxford University.
The FIAT Spanish Formula 3 Championship has become one of the foremost F3
categories in the world in recent seasons with Javier Villa, Andy Soucek, Borja
Garcia, Roldan Rodriguez and Sergio Jimenez all graduating to the highly
prestigious, Formula One-supporting, GP2 series.
