Will Bratt heads to Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk next weekend,
12th/13th August, aiming to continue the form he showed last Sunday
when taking his second Formula Renault UK podium of the year during an
action-packed 12th round of the season at Donington Park.
The 18-year-old, who races for the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed
Scorpio Motorsport team, will arrive at Snetterton seventh overall in
the driver standings and, importantly, just four points shy of the top
six and within reach of the championship top three.
Following up his maiden category victory at Oulton Park in May, the
second of last weekend’s races saw Will drive superbly well and produce
a first-class overtaking manoeuvre on fellow series front-runner Cheng
Cong Fu to claim his second Formula Renault UK career podium.
The Adderbury teenager, who sported a brand new orange, silver and
white crash helmet design for the Donington Park race meeting, is
looking forward to being among the pace-setters at Snetterton next
weekend and is confident he will be able to make further inroads into
the championship top six.
“We do need to unlock some more speed from the car but to finish on the
podium again at Donington was fantastic and I think if we aim to
qualify in the top six at Snetterton it certainly won’t be an
unrealistic aim”, commented Will.
“In testing at Snetterton recently we were pretty quick, especially on
old tyres where we had the second fastest time for most of the session.
Unlike almost everyone else, we didn’t have any running on new tyres.
“In the championship standings things are looking good and we’re in
reach of Franky (Cheng Cong Fu) in third place. I think I’d possibly be
a little bit displeased if we fail to end the season in the top six but
if we can make it into the top five it would be great.”
Including the two Snetterton encounters, there are eight races
remaining in the 2006 series and Will is confident he will be able to
make a couple more visits to the podium as part of a strong conclusion
to his second season of single-seater action.
“The remainder of the season should be good for us as we visit
Donington and Brands Hatch again and we’ve gone well at both of those
circuits already this year. Silverstone is an unknown really but I
think we should do fairly well and we’ll have a good indicator of what
to expect as we have an official test day there later this month.”
Official pre-event testing ahead of next weekend’s Snetterton races
will take place on Friday, 11th August. Qualifying for rounds 13 and 14
will be held on Saturday, 12th August, with the first session set to
begin at 09.00 and the second session scheduled to get underway at
14.40.
Both races will take place on Sunday, 13th August, with round 13
expected to commence at 11.40 and round 14 timetabled to start at
15.35. Motors TV will broadcast each race live on channel 413 of the
Sky Digital platform and through cable operator NTL on channel 173.
