Ballymena Man Ivor McCullough, after 3 years, has made his return to Formula Ford 1600. Ivor’s first race back was at Kirkistown Race Circuit on 29th July 2006. The weather and driving conditions were not great but this did not deter the ambitious Ballymena man.
Ivor was competing against 24 other drivers from throughout the UK and some were promised to be stiff competition. Traffic was heavy for McCullough during qualifying however he managed to qualify for 3rd on the grid.
Ivor got off to a slow start and it became apparent throughout the race his skill had not left him. Ivor battled his way back from 6th and in the last laps managed to take 2nd over the current Formula Leader. Ivor’s driving added excitement and interest to the race. Ivor commented “It was fun and it’s great to be back”. Team Manager, Damien Doherty, commented that the race had been “hard and clean”.
Ivor’s next race will be in Kirkistown on the 26th August 2006 and
promises to be one of the major Formula Ford Events of the year with
television coverage being provided by the motorsport show “RPM”.
