WALK IN THE PARK FOR FPR PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 16 March 2008

Mark ‘Frosty’ Winterbottom added another podium to his 2008 V8 Supercar tally at Albert Park today, whilst Ford Performance Racing team-mate Steve Richards gave the crowd an overtaking master class.

Starting from 26th on the grid, Richo made up almost one place per lap over the 15-lap race to finish 12th overall, at one point taking both James Courtney and Fabian Coulthard in one corner.

With this weekend’s unique qualifying format, which sees Ford line up against Holden, Richo’s result will see the Castrol car start eighth in tomorrow’s final race as the fourth-fastest Ford.

Frosty spent the entire race muscling Will Davison in second, pushing right up to the chequered flag and giving fans a grandstand finish as he brought the FPR car home in third.

The result will see him start fourth for tomorrow’s race, which starts at 13:10

“I could see the incident with [James] Courtney and [Fabian] Coulthard coming and got a better run to go up the inside. I’d actually lined them up and the fact that they ran into each other just helped me out.

“I was fairly happy when the safety car came out towards the end of the race. I thought it would close the pack up and give me a good run but then I counted seven Commodores until Steven Johnson in the first Ford ahead of me so I thought there was no way I was going to catch him and improve my starting place for tomorrow. On the restart I just kept out of trouble and then a few laps later a car speared off and it was Johnson, which handed me another couple of spots for tomorrow’s grid.

“The car is very good; it’s cruising around at a pace. I’ve got to get a good start tomorrow and keep the ball rolling.”

“It was a good race; [Will] Davison was holding me up massively but I’ll get him tomorrow! He was defending quite hard and you’re not going to damage the car for ego. If it were a normal round you’d be a bit more forceful but all we need to do now is polish it, put some new wheels on and set off again!

“We’ve got on the podium and it’s a good result. Tomorrow we fight again and hopefully get some more points for the Ford team.”

Tim Edwards

Team Principal

“We’re very pleased with that result. It was a good steady drive from both Frosty and Steve. The temptation was to go for broke but they sensibly looked after the car and put themselves in a good position for tomorrow’s third and final race.”
