Power concludes successful Sebring Test second fastest PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 21 March 2008
Will Power has concluded a successful first test in the IndyCar Series by finishing second fastest after two days of testing at Sebring International Raceway in Florida today.

Power will now shift his focus to Homestead-Miami Speedway, where the Australian will test on March 24-25 in further testing for teams transitioning from the Champ Car World Series to the newly-unified IndyCar Series.

Power was second fastest on day two, marginally faster than the time that saw him finish the opening day of testing as fastest in the #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine.

Power completed 130 laps of the 1.66-mile road course over the two days of testing, which was his first drive of a Honda-powered Dallara IndyCar.

Power and team-mate Oriol Servia made it a one-two for KV Racing Technology at the historic test, with Servia topping today’s times after Power was the fastest man on day one.

Fourteen days and 5460 man hours of work after their first IndyCar Series chassis arrived at the KV Racing Technology shop in Indianapolis, KVRT passed its first IndyCar test with flying colours.

The test was a success for Power, Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia and KVRT on two fronts. In addition to topping the speed charts the squad also logged the most laps of the three teams participating in the test turning a combined total of 304 circuits between Power and Spaniard Servia.

This first IndyCar test for Power and Team Australia will be followed by a further two days of testing on the 1.5-mile oval of Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 24-25. Power has raced on a oval on only one occasion, at the Milwaukee Mile in 2006.

The first race of the 2008 IndyCar Series will be held under lights with the Gainsco Auto Insurance Indy 300 on March 29 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …

Will Power – #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

“This was a very positive test for KV Racing Technology Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia,” said Power.

“The main objective was to run as many miles as possible and learn as much as we could about the car. I understand more about the car now, but I still have a lot to learn.

“I haven’t been in a race car since Mexico City last year, so I was able to start getting back into form and get a bit of driver fitness back.

“I also want to thank the entire crew for their hard work. These guys put in a lot of hours to get us ready for this test and they did a great job.”

Jimmy Vasser – KV Racing Technology Co-Owner

“I am just really proud of the entire KVRT organisation,” said Vasser.

“To arrive with the level of preparation that we did with the amount of time we had, then to run pretty much error free for two days speaks volumes of this team.

“On top of that we were reasonably quick for the conditions. The track was very rubbered in, so comparatively it is tough to tell how good we really are. We were also happy to be able to get as many miles as we did under our belt.

“We are not overly confident right now. We have our eyes open. I know we have a great group of people here and we are all focused on working hard and learning, but certainly we understand that the teams we are going to go up against have a lot more familiarity with the chassis and the series, that puts us at a big disadvantage, but we will chip away at it.”
