Trimble looking for more Wakefield success this weekend PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 31 March 2008
Gold Coast V8 driver Michael Trimble will be looking to continue his successful run of results at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park circuit when he competes in round two of the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series this weekend. Trimble, who finished fifth on debut in the opening round of the 2008 series aboardtrimblesat-med.jpg the Global Jet Commodore, has enjoyed varied success at the venue in the past whilst competing in the Formula 3 and Formula Ford categories.

The 23-year-old made his first start at Wakefield Park in 2004 while contesting the Australian Formula Ford Championship, where he finished in 11th place. The following year he made the transition into Australia’s fastest form of open wheel racing, Formula 3, with enormous success.

After winning his maiden race aboard a Formula 3 at Wakefield Park, Trimble continued this success at the venue during 2006 by recording a pair of podium finishes.

Buoyed in confidence after finishing as the leading rookie driver in fifth place at the opening round in Adelaide Trimble is confident of another good result at a venue which he rates as one of the most technical in Australia.

“Wakefield Park is a track which is very tight and technical which makes qualifying vital,” said Trimble.

“Passing opportunities are very limited, so you have to take full advantage of any openings which come your way.

“I was pretty nervous going into Adelaide as I hadn’t done many laps in a V8 Supercar before but now with a round under my belt I feel comfortable behind the wheel and am really looking forward to getting back in the seat this weekend.”

Trimble will take to the circuit for the first time aboard the #64 Global Jet Commodore on Saturday morning for opening practice followed by qualifying in the afternoon. Three 17-lap races (10:30am, 12:45pm and 3:10pm) will be the highlight of Sunday’s action.
